Mayan honey from Mexico (indigenous beekeepers)

500 g creamy organic blossom honey from the Los Altos de Chiapas region in southern Mexico. Local farmers from the indigenous population have joined together to form the Maya Vinic cooperative in order to market their products together (similar to a cooperative). The cooperative mainly offers cocoa, coffee and honey.

Because the question is asked from time to time whether the bees are stingless Melipona bees , we researched the Internet and actually found a website in Spanish. Unfortunately, the section on the breed of bees that the beekeepers work with is missing, so there are no reliable findings (website as of 2017). The fact is that the Melipona bees originally bred in Mexico (especially the "Melipona beecheii" breed) are gradually being replaced by western honey bees. They offer beekeepers a higher honey yield than the originally native bee breed.

This organically certified highland blossom honey was traded at fair prices, it has a light colour, is delicately creamy, sweet and has a slightly fruity taste.
