Another special feature of the beekeeping is the natural beekeeping , because the bee colonies overwinter on their own honey, without being fed with sugar syrup.
To avoid additional feeding, the beekeeper must pay attention to a few things. In particular, he may only take honey from the bee colony if there are still sources of nectar. In this case, these are the sunflowers, which bloom in abundance in the Weinviertel. In the last days of summer, the bees get everything they need to survive the winter from the sunflower fields and build up a honey reserve of up to 20 kg. This reserve is the bees' basis for survival in winter and lasts until the new bloom in spring.
