Raspberry bushes are pioneer plants and quickly grow along forest edges and clearings. Some beekeepers call the raspberry the "queen of nectar plants" because it offers the bees highly concentrated nectar.
This raspberry honey comes directly from the Feldt beekeeping company in Germany, without any middlemen. The apiary is located in North Rhine-Westphalia, in a forest area that suffered massive clear-cutting due to Hurricane Kyriel. And the raspberry is one of the first shrubs to be able to take advantage of this clear-cutting.
Despite all the drama surrounding the hurricane, we are pleased that the bees can visit wild raspberries and are not dependent on over-fertilized cultivated varieties. The honey itself is mild but sweet with a very delicate berry aroma.
